Tristan Achterberg
PhD Student
Tristan is a PhD student at the UMC Utrecht and Princes Maxima Center. He obtained his bachelor’s in biology in 2022 and master’s in molecular biology at the University of Groningen in 2024. During his masters, Tristan worked on building machine learning models to predict DNA binding sites of proteins in bacteria, and CD8+ T cell cross-reactivity between epitopes. This biologically driven AI work inspired his transition into cancer-focused computational research in the De Ridder group. His current work focuses on utilizing DNA methylation to predict tumor subtypes in leukemia and cancers of unknown primary.
