Michiel Thiecke

PostDoc

Michiel did his PhD in the Spivakov lab at the university of Cambridge, where he focused on 3D chromatin organisation.

Specifically, Michiel focused on the role of the architectural proteins Cohesin and CTCF in shaping the genome-wide promoter-interaction landscape. This resulted in the detection of a class of Cohesin-independent promoter interactions, which likely explain transcriptional resilience to perturbations of Cohesin and CTCF.

After his PhD, he helped set up the company Enhanc3D Genomics, leading the development of the bioinformatics pipeline and the analysis and interpretation of in-house data.

After Enhanc3D Genomics had attained series A funding and had recruited a team of excellent bioinformaticians and software engineers, Michiel returned to science.

At the de Ridder group, Michiel focuses on fundamental mechanisms of transcriptional control. Additionally, he is interested in non-nuclear mechanisms of transcriptional dysregulation in health and disease.
