Lucía Barbadilla
PhD student
Lucía joined de Ridder lab as a PhD student in November of 2021. She completed her bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, followed by the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology master's in the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam. During her master's, she performed two research internships in discovering biomarkers to predict anticancer treatment response at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and in predicting variant effects on promoter activity at the UMC Utrecht. These internships inspired her to pursue a PhD, where she aims to develop deep-learning algorithms that predict how noncoding genetic variants affect gene expression, and subsequently their impact on diseases.
