Research Technician
Cas is a Research Analyst at the Center of Molecular Medicine (CMM) within UMC Utrecht. He obtained his Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Wageningen University & Research in 2024, specializing in medical molecular biology. During his studies, he conducted research at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), where he optimized a proteomics pipeline for colorectal cancer biopsies, and at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida, where he investigated epigenetic silencing strategies in HIV.At UMC Utrecht, Cas contributes to the implementation of Oxford Nanopore sequencing pipelines on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), plasma, and tumor tissue. His work involves cfDNA isolation protocol optimization, methylation calling, and the development of machine learning models such as the Sturgeon classifier to support intraoperative decision-making in CNS tumors.
