Carlo Vermeulen

PostDoc

Carlo did his PhD in the group of Wouter de Laat in the Hubrecht institute. During his PhD he developed a method to perform non-invasive prenatal diagnostics. This method allows the diagnosis of heritable diseases in unborn fetuses based on the cell-free DNA extracted from maternal blood, avoiding the use of invasive methods. He also investigated the formation of chromatin interaction clusters. In order to do so he helped to develop the MC-4C method. Currently he is performing analysis on MC-HiC data, a method similar to MC-4C. This method allows to look at multi-way genomic interactions. In addition, he is working on the detection of DNA methylation using nanopore sequencing.
